Spa Q&A

How often do I need to test my hot tub water?

If you’re new to owning a hot tub, it would also be wise to check your water two to three times per week to see if other levels like pH and total alkalinity get too high or too low. If that’s the case, you may find yourself needing to apply a pH increaser or decreaser.

How do I know when I should clean my hot tub filter?

Generally speaking, the rule of thumb is to rinse your hot tub filter monthly and every 3-4 months with a filter cleaner that will allow you to clean between the pleats and remove any deposits.

Some filters may need to be cleaned more often depending on the temperature, hot tub use, or hot tub debris load.

How often do I need to change my hot tub water completely?

That depends on how much you use the Spa or hot tub and how clean your bathers are, but generally speaking, most residential spas are drained every 3-4 months. The water will get hazy as the hot tub’s water gets “older,” and you might even experience grit on the shell.

Will my spa attract rodents in the winter?

It’s not uncommon for mice to try to make a home beneath the warm spa cabinet. Deter them with mint bags or mothballs and keep the area clear around the spa. Seal up any access points, but never block any vents (although you can staple a wire mesh over the vents).

How much will my electric bill increase with a Spa?

Generally about $10-$20 per month, depending on where you live. Some areas of the US pay much more than other parts of the country pay for electricity. In most cases, you may not even notice the bump of $15 per month.
